What is Yoga?

What is Yoga?

There is a beautiful story about a caterpillar that lived much of its life believing that it had come into being only to eat and sleep and do what the rest of the caterpillars did. However it was unhappy. Somehow it sensed that its life had another dimension not yet experienced.

One day, driven by a strange longing, it decided to become still and silent. It hung from the branch of a tree, weaving a cocoon around itself. Inside the cocoon, although constrained and uncomfortable, it waited, sensing and aware. Its patience bore fruit, for when the cocoon burst open, it was no longer the lowly worm that went in, but a beautiful, resplendent, winged butterfly which dazzled the sky. It soared and flew, no longer limited to its worm-like existence, but free and unbounded. The caterpillar had been transformed into a thing of air and lightness, magic and beauty.

Once the transformation had taken place, it was impossible for the butterfly to return to being a worm. In the cocoon, the caterpillar had become one with its inner being and in this union it reached its ultimate nature. What happened in the cocoon can be described as yoga. Yoga is the path towards being boundless.

Yoga transforms and liberates human beings so that they can reach this unbounded state. Humans, unlike animals, are not merely existing. They are becoming. To evolve as a human being is to become aware of one's limitations; to strive, with intense passion, towards the transcendence for which we all have the potential.

-Sadhguru.

Great Goals Make You Stretch...!!!

I embarked upon enhancing my personal energy level three months shy
of my 40th birthday. At the time, I had been diagnosed as clinically
depressed, struggling with the debilitating effects of Chronic
Fatigue Syndrome and rendered permanently partially disabled as the
result of being involved in two car accidents (neither of which were
I at fault) in six days. I recall an incredible sense of emptiness
and a daunting feeling of being completely overwhelmed; especially
when trying to figure out which pills went with what ills. Most of
my time was spent in bed. There, I eventually became 48 pounds "over-
fat."

When dreams and reasons for living are wiped out by the greatest, of
the least unexpected, most people's priorities change. My
priorities? Well, they just disappeared all together. I was
defeated; emotionally, spiritually, psychologically ... and was
knocking on "Financially's" door. Making my bed was not a priority;
it simply went unmade. Paying the bills was not a priority; most
simply went unpaid.

One day I awoke at 3 a.m. and was moved to make the decision ro
reclaim complete responsibility of my life. And I did.
Today, 37 months post accident, I am 51 pounds lighter, at least 52
times brighter, an author, inspirational speaker, educator, small
business person and private investigator. I am also a personal
energy consultant who not only promotes, but promises life-altering
change to those I work with. I figured, if I overcame all my
physical, spiritual and psychological ailments, discovered how to
run faster, jump higher, throw farther; look younger, stay up longer
and manifest more energy today than when I was a starting NCAA
athlete half my age, anyone can do the "undoable," too.

When clients and friends counter and say, "Maybe it worked for you,
Fran, but it won't necessarily work for me..." I reply: "Look, I
have a central nervous system and so do you; I'm a child of God, and
you are, too!" Seconds later, they usually smile and roll up their
sleeves.

Miracles happen when you remind one of the Divine.
When I began working to enhance my personal energy level, I
identified, outlined and wrote down my Physical Goals. Returning to
play competititive softball was in the top two. I vowed I would play
this level of softball again if it killed me. It almost did! My
second goal stated that I would be the starting shortstop on a
championship team. I accomplished both of my goals.

Just getting back on the practice field was challenging in itself. I
literally had to learn how to run again and I experienced soreness
in muscles I never even knew existed! However, as I continued to
practice and follow a disciplined physical conditioning program,
something just short of magical happened. My personality experienced
a resurgence of charisma, confidence, boldness and energy! My
muscles grew stronger, my energy continued to increase and the fat
melted off my body. Activity not only became easier, but quite
enjoyable.

Great goals make you stretch. They can take you well beyond anything
you could possibly imagine! The most important part of setting great
goals is not the goals themselves, but the person you become, in the
stretch.

The Magical Online Scheduler : Presdo

Presdo, The Magical Online Scheduler

presdo_logo.gifMay be I would wish you to stop what you are doing right now and go try Presdo. It is a deceptively simple online scheduling assistant that is a prime example of what a modern Web app should be. It only shows you what you need to see at the moment that you need to see it. And it understands what you want to do based on normal (and not-so-normal) English that you type in.

“We actually threw a lot away,” says founder Eric Ly, who previously was a co-founder of LinkedIn and its first chief technology officer. He wrote most of the code himself and bootsrapped the entire site with only $35,000 of his own money. “I left LinkedIn on a Friday, and started Presdo on Saturday,” he tells me. That was back in April, 2006. He had to develop his own natural-language algorithm to deal with events, times, and scheduling, and the words people use to describe those things. The whole site is built with Ruby on Rails, Ajax, and the LAMP stack.

The home page is a plain, Google-inspired box. But instead of typing in what you are looking for, you type in what you want to do and with who: “Coffee with Eric in SF,” “Movie with Nadia Fri night,” “Meeting with Henry at 2:30 pm.”

It then takes you to a page with pre-populated fields based on what you typed in: when, who, where, what. You can refine the details further on this page. If you typed in the person’s email in the first box, it appears in the “who” field. If you didn’t, you can enter it at this point.

Presdo lets you pick a location by searching through local listings on a Google map. You can pick one near you, near the person you are meeting, or in between. (It helps if you first register with your own email and location.)

presdo-map.png

Or you can look at a list view of nearby places instead.  [The screenshot shows few places in United States, you may get something that applies to you]

presdo-local-list.png

Presdo guesses what day and time you meant and puts those in as well. But you can offer up alternative times and allow the other party to pick the best one or suggest their own.

presdo-time-choose.png

When you are satisfied with what you have, you hit “Send Invite.” The other person gets an e-mail with the details and a link back to Presdo, where they can change the time or place. You can also add a message. All the messages back-and-forth are recorded on the event page.

presdo-message-small.png

Once everything is set, you can export the meeting to your calendar (Presdo supports Outlook, iCal, Google Calendar, and Yahoo Calendar).

Every time you schedule an event with a new person, Presdo remembers who they are for the next time. You can also use Presdo as a to-do list. There are some obvious features Ly needs to add, such as support for other forms of messaging beyond email including mobile text messaging and Twitter. But he is off to a good start. The service is free, and he hopes to eventually charge for premium subscriptions. You can try it out now, and tell others what you think in comments.

Hope that’s of some interest to you….:)
